Love your photos. I was lucky enough to get some great shots of a young cooper's hawk last year, too. Doesn't look like you're suffering too much from not having the 800mm lens. I have a 50-500 lens that I use most of the time and I'm very happy with it. Thanks for the images and the thoughts.

I do agree. Do you think what bothers humans is that a)we have so much in common with something non-human OR b) that ANY other creature has the gall to do what we do?

Being misanthropic to the core, I think it's statement B which bugs us so. How dare those beavers move stuff around? We are the only ones allowed to do that. And what's worse, they aren't even building a store afterwards from which to sell things!! What's the point in re-appropriating nature if not in the name of naked capitalism?

And yes, that WAS an ad for some magical pills...I get spammed every night and now have to approve every comment before it appears. Bummer.

I have always maintained that people were so threatened by beavers because they are the only other creatures that alter their landscape significantly to make it more inhabitable for them -- and we are somehow threatened by this similarity. It appears you agree.

(Is that one comment an advert for pills? Or do I not get it?)

Hey there, nice writing and thoughts about your beavers. If you really want to help them avoid a crushing fate, think about getting the family together and wire wrapping some of those trees. You can use galvinized steel wire, or paint the trunks with a matching paint mixed with mason sand. The beavers don't like the gritty texture and will eat other foods. Its a hungry time out your way right now, and they'll back off the trees anyway when the weather turns.

Just so you know, we have been very close to our very public beavers in the middle of town for three years. No one has ever been harmed, although the beavers were nearly harmed by the powers that be many, many times.
